KC's 14-game unbeaten run began after 1-0 loss at Seattle in last meeting
Following a 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, Sporting Kansas City will look to extend a club record 14-game unbeaten run when they host Seattle Sounders FC Saturday night at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT with live television coverage on KSMO beginning at 7:00 p.m. CT. Saturday’s match is presented by Time Warner Cable.
Sporting Kansas City trails in the all-time series against Seattle with a record of 1-4-0 since the sides first squared off in 2009. The lone win in the series for Sporting Kansas City came on April 11, 2009, when Davy Arnaud scored the lone goal in a match that saw the first loss for Seattle in MLS competition. Sporting Kansas City has yet to record a home victory against their Western Conference counterparts.
This is the second meeting between the two sides in 2011. The first, a 1-0 win for Seattle at CenturyLink Field on May 21st, was the last match Sporting Kansas City lost before starting their current 14-game unbeaten run with a 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids on May 28th.
Seattle ( 10 - 5 - 8 ), currently sitting in third place in the Western Conference, enter Saturday night’s contest following a 2-0 overtime win over San Francisco FC of Panama in CONCACAF Champions League play. The win sees Seattle advance to the group stage of the regional tournament for the second time in two years.
Sounders FC midfielder Steve Zakuani and goalkeeper Terry Boss will both miss out on Saturday’s match with Sporting Kansas City. Zakuani is still recovering from a right leg fracture suffered on April 22nd against Colorado, while Boss is still listed as after receiving a concussion on July 20th against Manchester United. Midfielder Brad Evans is listed as doubtful with a hamstring strain, while defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado is questionable after suffering an MCL sprain in his left knee.
For Sporting Kansas City, captain Davy Arnaud will be out after recently undergoing successful sports hernia surgery, while midfielder Craig Rocastle is still rehabbing his right knee following a sprain suffered while playing for Grenada at this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup. Aurelien Collin will also miss out following the recent announcement announcement that the defender has suffered a non-displaced fracture of the transverse process of both the L2 and L3 vertebrae in his lumbar spine.
Defender Korede Aiyegbusi is listed as out with a concussion along with Kevin Ellis, who is recovering from a right ankle sprain. Defender Chance Myers is listed as doubtful with a right quad strain.Sporting Kansas City midfielder Roger Espinoza is suspended for the clash with Seattle, having been shown a red card in Wednesday’s match against Real Salt Lake for a tackle on Real Salt Lake midfielder Kyle Beckerman.
